"Playing With Fire" taken inside the haunted Victorian Rose Bed & Breakfast in Ventura, CA. A fantastically beautiful photo waiting to hang on your wall.
The Victorian Rose began as a Victorian Steeple Church affectionately known as St. John's when it opened in 1890. Though no longer a place of worship, the building is the only remaining Victorian steeple church building left in Ventura. Part of that reason for its survival has to do with the church's failure to attract a large congregation which would have necessitated a larger, more modern place of worship. That being said, the building itself is a local landmark and a much-loved building in Ventura -- ghosts and all.
Although the Victorian Rose is now for sale, its history and ghost legends are discussed in the book HAUNTED BY HISTORY VOL. 1: SEPARATING THE FACTS AND LEGENDS OF EIGHT HISTORIC HOTEL AND INNS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA by Craig Owens. My name is Craig Owens, a photographer/blogger for the popular Facebook Page "Bizarre Los Angeles" and the author of the book, "Haunted by History Vol. 1," separating the facts and legends of eight historic, haunted hotels in Southern California. I have always been in love with Old Hollywood. I love it for its glamour, its style, its mythology and its decadence, which always seems to be bubbling just below its surface. I'm a firm believer that its history should not be forgotten even if its architecture and carbon footprints are slowly being replaced.
