Description
The woman in the photo is pioneer aviatrix Ruth Elder, who was famous and beautiful enough to land a silent movie contract in the 1920s. Billed as the "Miss America of the Air," Elder competed against all of the other female aviatrixes (including Amelia Earhart) and was one of the lucky ones who never died in a plane crash, although she came close. She remained involved with aviation all of her adult life, even working for Howard Hughes. Elder lived to be 75 years of age and has only recently been rediscovered by historians.
